The Green Gardener offers a breadth of services, bringing enthusiasm and attention to detail to our work. Exclusively focused on residential landscape design and planting, horticulturalist Maia van Holsteijn brings a unique eco-friendly and meticulous approach to her work.
Maia uses hand tools, organic fertilizer, native plants, and electric equipment, focused on keeping our world green beyond your property.
An Iowa native, Maia has chosen to live and work in beautiful Upstate New York, and considers our unique landscape and seasons in helping neighbors design beautiful outdoor spaces.

Whether you need help planting a fruitful vegetable garden, or would like redesign of an existing garden, we can help you grow a productive plot to feed your family and friends. We offer installation of raised beds, cultivation and fertilization of new beds, and design for a sustainable garden.
Seasonal Services
SPRING PLANTING
Start your growing season with a fresh canvas. Preparing flower beds in Spring prevents against disease and mold, and gives space for healthy and abundant growth. We offer options including early weeding, fresh mulch, and cleanup of leftover fall leaves to prepare your beds to spring into bloom!
Bulb planting
Add seasonal interest with spring, summer and fall bulb plantings! We will work with you to select and sow a beautiful landscape.
Yard Maintenance
Mowing
Keep your yard tidy and green with professional mowing, including edging if desired. We care about preserving our landscape for generations to come, and use all electric tools to neaten up yards small and large.
Weeding
Whether your garden is completely overgrown or just needs a bit of cleanup, we will get it looking great! We are thorough and make sure that every part of the weed is removed to prevent regrowth. We will work on even the toughest yards!
Pruning
We offer professional shrub and perennial pruning for all seasons. With sharp tools and a smart eye, Maia will shape your plants for healthy and appropriate growth.
Small Yards
PLANTER DESIGN
Limited space for planting can open an opportunity for lush planters, window boxes, pots, and other displays. From an impressive display on a porch or stoop to building and installing raised beds in a backyard, we can help those with big dreams but limited space.
RAISED BEDS
Easier to weed, saves your back, and keeps rabbits and pets out of your plantings, we can help you with planning and installing raised beds in your space.
